Where it came from
No One Knows is a collection of short stories by the acclaimed Chinese mangaka Xia Da. First serialized in various publications before being compiled into this volume, the work reflects the artist's signature delicate, ethereal aesthetic. The collection serves as a bridge between her early career and the broader international recognition she achieved with later works like Chang Ge Xing, showcasing a focus on introspective themes, folklore, and the nuances of human emotion.
Xia Da is widely recognized for her meticulous line work and painterly style, which often blends traditional Chinese artistic sensibilities with the narrative structures of modern manga. In No One Knows, she explores atmospheric storytelling, aiming to capture fleeting moods rather than strictly linear plots. The work was well-received by readers for its lyrical quality and remains a significant artifact of early 21st-century Chinese independent comics, highlighting Xia Da's role in elevating the medium's artistic stature in Asia.
