Where it came from
O. SHI. GO. TO is a distinctive work by the acclaimed manga artist Shiriagari Kotobuki, known for his subversive and often surreal approach to the medium. Released as part of his broader output during a period where he shifted toward more experimental, avant-garde storytelling, the volume reflects his characteristic style of blending humor with existential dread and social commentary. The title itself plays on linguistic nuances, indicative of the author's tendency to deconstruct Japanese cultural tropes through a lens of absurdism.
The design of this volume embodies the minimalist yet jarring aesthetic often associated with Shiriagari’s indie publications. Rather than adhering to the polished, hyper-kinetic conventions of mainstream manga, the work utilizes rougher linework and unconventional pacing to unsettle the reader. Upon its release, it was received primarily by a niche audience of alternative comics enthusiasts, earning praise for its refusal to follow traditional narrative structures and its commitment to exploring the darker, more nonsensical aspects of modern life.
