OL to Gyaru

OL to Gyaru, or Office Lady to Gyaru, is a manga series created by the mangaka Kaba Yama. The series explores the transformation and lifestyle clashes between a traditional office worker and the distinct gyaru subculture, characterized by stylized fashion, tanned skin, and bold aesthetics. It emerged during a period of ongoing interest in the Japanese workplace comedy genre, blending slice-of-life elements with contemporary social commentary on evolving fashion trends and professional norms.

The design and artistic direction of the series focus on the visual contrast between the protagonist's professional attire and the flashy, expressive appearance of the gyaru archetype. Kaba Yama utilizes expressive character designs to emphasize the humor inherent in these differing social spheres. The work was received as a lighthearted examination of the intersection between corporate etiquette and personal expression, finding its audience among readers who enjoy character-driven manga with a focus on stylistic subcultures.
