One Woman and the War

One Woman and the War, or 'Hitori no onna to hitotsu no senso,' is a poignant short story collection by the influential Japanese writer Sakaguchi Ango. Published during the complex years following World War II, these works emerged from the intellectual upheaval of the Buraiha, or 'decadent school,' of literature. Ango sought to strip away the pretense of wartime ideals and social conformity, examining the raw, often unsettling reality of the individual surviving in a society that had recently collapsed.
