One-Winged Angel

One-Winged Angel, authored by Tsunoda Jirou, emerged from the prolific landscape of 1970s Japanese horror and occult manga. Tsunoda was a pivotal figure in the genre, best known for his ability to weave psychological dread with supernatural themes, often drawing from his own profound interest in spiritualism and folklore. This work stands as a testament to his signature aesthetic, which favored unsettling imagery and existential narratives that challenged the boundaries of traditional shonen and seinen storytelling.

The design and narrative approach of the work reflect Tsunoda's transition toward mature, often darker themes following his earlier, lighter successes. By prioritizing atmospheric tension and a distinct, stark illustrative style, he sought to provoke deep-seated anxiety in his readership rather than relying solely on conventional jump scares. The series is widely regarded by scholars and enthusiasts as a quintessential example of the mid-career experimentalism that defined his contributions to the horror genre during that era.
