Where it came from
Orange, created by manga artist Ichigo Takano, first emerged in Japan in 2012 before finding international acclaim. The series, a poignant blend of science fiction and slice-of-life drama, explores themes of grief, regret, and the weight of interpersonal connections as the protagonist receives a letter from her future self. The narrative is noted for its delicate emotional tone, balancing the gravity of its central premise—preventing a classmate's suicide—with the authentic anxieties of high school life.
This French-language edition, published by Akata, follows the consistent aesthetic established for the series' international releases. Takano’s character designs are celebrated for their expressive clarity, prioritizing subtle shifts in facial features to convey complex internal monologues. Upon its release in France, the series was well-received for its empathetic handling of sensitive subject matter, contributing significantly to the broader recognition of shojo manga that tackles mental health themes with maturity.
