Oreimo: Kuroneko

The Oreimo series, titled Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai, began as a light novel project written by Tsukasa Fushimi with illustrations by Hiro Kanzaki. First published in 2008, the series explores the complex and often humorous dynamics of the Kousaka family, focusing on the protagonist Kyosuke and his younger sister Kirino. The narrative centers on the subculture of otaku hobbies, bridging the gap between mainstream social expectations and niche fandom passions.

The character Kuroneko, or Ruri Gokou, emerged as a standout figure within the series, depicted as a sharp-tongued goth-lolita with a deep affinity for anime and internet culture. Hiro Kanzaki's character design was instrumental in her reception, balancing an austere, mysterious aesthetic with the vulnerability required for her character arc. Since her debut, she has become an iconic figure in modern light novel history, frequently appearing in spin-off manga, anime adaptations, and a vast array of merchandise.
