Othello。

Othello. is a manga series authored and illustrated by Satomi Ikezawa, serialized in Kodansha's Bessatsu Friend magazine beginning in the early 2000s. The work emerged during a period of high interest in psychological manga that explored themes of identity, social anxiety, and the dual nature of the human psyche, effectively blending shojo tropes with a darker, unsettling narrative style.

The narrative follows a shy, introverted protagonist who develops an aggressive and outgoing alter ego, a classic motif reimagined through the lens of early 2000s Japanese youth culture. Ikezawa’s character designs are noted for their clean, expressive lines that contrast sharply with the internal turmoil of the characters, a stylistic choice that was received as a compelling departure from more conventional romantic series of the era.
