Otokujuku Gaiden: Kurenai!! Onnajuku

Otokujuku Gaiden: Kurenai!! Onnajuku was created as a spin-off to Akira Miyashita’s long-running and iconic masculine-focused martial arts manga, Sakigake!! Otokujuku. Written and illustrated by Saitou Michi, this series shifts the focus from the hyper-masculine, testosterone-fueled environment of the original Otokujuku academy to a parallel narrative centered on an all-female school. The work emerged as part of the broader franchise expansion that sought to reinterpret classic shonen tropes through a different demographic lens while maintaining the over-the-top combat style synonymous with the original series.

The design and tone of the manga reflect a deliberate parody of the intense, hyper-dramatic character archetypes found in the original source material. Saitou Michi utilizes a visual style that pays homage to the 1980s aesthetic of the original work while layering in comedic elements suited to the female-led cast. Upon its release, the series was received as a lighthearted tribute to the franchise, appreciated by long-time fans for its ability to satirize the intense machismo of the original while establishing its own unique identity within the Otokujuku universe.
