Where it came from
Ouji no Torimaki A wa Akuyaku Reijou no Mikata desu, authored by Sasaki Ichiro, emerged within the burgeoning 'otome isekai' subgenre of manga. These narratives typically subvert the tropes of romance dating simulation games by shifting the perspective to a villainess or a supporting character navigating a preordained tragic plot. This volume specifically centers on the role of a background character, or 'torimaki', who intentionally chooses to align with the story's antagonist to alter the narrative outcome.
The artistic style reflects modern shoujo sensibilities, utilizing expressive character designs to emphasize the comedic and dramatic shifts inherent in the premise. As part of a genre that rose to significant popularity in the late 2010s, the series was created to capitalize on readers' growing interest in stories that deconstruct traditional high-fantasy romance tropes, offering a clever commentary on the structural constraints of dating-sim character archetypes.
