Where it came from
P2! -let's Play Pingpong!- was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 2006, written and illustrated by Tatsuma Ejiri. The series emerged during a period where sports-themed manga remained a staple of the magazine's identity, aiming to capture the intensity of competitive table tennis through a shonen lens. Ejiri utilized a high-energy art style to emphasize the speed and precision inherent in the sport, focusing on a protagonist who navigates the challenging world of professional-level table tennis.
The series received a moderate following during its publication but ultimately concluded after approximately two years of serialization. While it may not have achieved the long-term cultural ubiquity of sports epics like Slam Dunk or Prince of Tennis, it is noted by enthusiasts for its technical dedication to the rules and mechanics of ping pong, reflecting the author's clear passion for the sport's intricacies and competitive spirit.
