Where it came from
Penguin Party is a charming manga volume created by the prolific duo Muroyama Mayumi, consisting of sisters Mayumi and Mariko Muroyama. Rising to prominence in the late 1970s and 1980s, the sisters became well-known for their distinct, rounded character designs and lighthearted, humorous storytelling that often featured adorable animal protagonists or whimsical childhood antics, fitting squarely into the beloved shojo and kodomo-muke aesthetic of the era.
The series reflects the sisters' signature ability to craft accessible, endearing narratives that resonated deeply with younger Japanese readers. While they are perhaps most famously remembered for their long-running series Asari-chan, Penguin Party exemplifies their talent for character-driven comedy, showcasing the clean linework and expressive, big-eyed character style that became a hallmark of their collaborative portfolio and solidified their enduring legacy within the manga industry.
