Pierre and His People: Tales of the Far North.

Pierre and His People: Tales of the Far North, written by Gilbert Parker, was first published in 1892. It serves as a definitive collection of short stories that helped establish Parker’s reputation as a chronicler of the Canadian frontier. Drawing upon his experiences and observations during his time in the Canadian Northwest, Parker crafted these narratives to capture the rugged spirit, isolation, and complex dynamics of life in the remote fur-trading territories at the close of the nineteenth century.

The stories center on the enigmatic character Pierre, a half-breed voyageur whose presence ties together the various vignettes of wilderness survival and indigenous encounter. The design and prose style reflect the late Victorian fascination with imperial expansion and the exoticism of the North American interior. Upon its release, the work was well-received by contemporary readers who were captivated by the romanticism of the frontier, solidifying Parker's place in the literary canon of colonial adventure fiction.
