Pokémon SPECIAL Sword & Shield

Pokémon SPECIAL: Sword & Shield is a manga series derived from the popular video game titles Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. It follows the established format of the long-running Pokémon Adventures series, which reimagines the narrative of the main-line games. The series was created to bridge the gap between the Galar region's game mechanics and a more character-driven storytelling approach, focusing on protagonists Casey Shield and Henry Sword as they navigate the gym challenge and the mystery surrounding the Legendary Pokémon.

The illustrations for this series are handled by Satoshi Yamamoto, who has been the primary artist for the franchise since the Gold and Silver arcs. Yamamoto’s design philosophy focuses on dynamic battle sequences and expressive character work, aiming to capture the scale of the Dynamax phenomenon while maintaining the established aesthetic of the Pokémon world. The series has been received as a faithful expansion of the Pokémon lore, serving both as a companion to the game's release and as a distinct narrative entity within the broader Pokémon literary collection.
