Production and Marketing of Bananas from the Associated African States and Madagascar

Published by the Commission of the European Economic Community in 1967, this study emerged during a period when the EEC was actively working to integrate the trade interests of its associate members in Africa and Madagascar into the European market. The report was commissioned to provide a comprehensive analysis of the economic viability, cultivation methods, and logistical frameworks necessary to maintain competitive banana exports from these regions to the European mainland.

The document serves as a technical snapshot of mid-20th-century agricultural trade policy, focusing on the infrastructure required to sustain international supply chains between developing states and European blocs. As a formal administrative publication, the work reflects the era's focus on structured economic cooperation, prioritizing data-driven agricultural management to stabilize prices and output for tropical commodity imports during a shifting geopolitical landscape.
