Procès-Verbaux des séances des administrations municipales de Villefranche-sur-Saône (1789-1800).: (1789-1793)

This volume serves as a primary source document capturing the administrative record of Villefranche-sur-Saône during the initial, tumultuous years of the French Revolution. Compiled by the archivist Abel Besançon, the work transcribes the minutes of municipal meetings held between 1789 and 1793. These records provide a granular look at how local authorities navigated the sweeping legislative changes initiated by the National Assembly and the subsequent restructuring of municipal governance across France.

The publication is part of a broader historical effort to preserve local revolutionary records that might otherwise have been lost to time or decay. By meticulously documenting the transition from the Ancien Régime to the new republican structures, Besançon’s work offers researchers direct insight into the practical challenges of local government during a period of radical instability. The collection is highly regarded by historians for its utility in mapping the socio-political climate of the Beaujolais region during the late eighteenth century.
