Where it came from
Project Tokyo Dolls: Forgotten Imitation Doll is a spin-off publication derived from the Project Tokyo Dolls multimedia franchise, which centers on a group of young women known as DOLLS who serve as a frontline defense against supernatural threats. This volume serves as an expanded narrative piece, fleshing out the somber and often melancholic lore of the doll units as they navigate their artificial existences. It was crafted to provide dedicated players and fans with a deeper, more atmospheric look into the specific character dynamics that define the series' tone.
The material was written and illustrated by Yodasou of the circle dotworks, who sought to capture the fragile, ethereal aesthetic associated with the franchise. The design emphasizes a delicate interplay between high-tech imagery and the hollow, existential nature of the characters. Upon its release, it was received primarily as a collector's companion for the game's audience, lauded for its consistency with the established visual identity of the Square Enix-led project and its commitment to the series' underlying themes of memory and identity.
