Protocol Ryugu

Protocol Ryugu, authored by Tsuru Daisaku, is a conceptual science fiction manga work that emerged within the landscape of experimental seinen publishing. The series reflects the thematic preoccupations of its era, often exploring the intersection of traditional folklore and high-concept techno-thriller elements. Daisaku utilizes the narrative to deconstruct bureaucratic systems, positioning the titular Ryugu as a metaphorical space for examining human isolation and the unintended consequences of technological advancement.

The aesthetic of the series is defined by stark, high-contrast line work and an emphasis on architectural geometry, which serves to reinforce the cold, clinical nature of the story's setting. Daisaku’s approach to panel layout avoids conventional cinematic pacing in favor of a more methodical, almost procedural visual rhythm. Upon its release, the work was noted by critics for its intellectual ambition, though it remained a niche publication, appreciated primarily by readers who favor atmospheric storytelling over traditional character-driven arcs.
