Puella Magi Kazumi Magica, Vol. 1: The Innocent Malice

Puella Magi Kazumi Magica was conceived as part of the expanding multimedia franchise spawned by the 2011 anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Created by the collective known as the Magica Quartet—comprised of writer Masaki Hiramatsu and artists Takashi Tensugi and Seolas—the manga serves as an original spin-off that explores the psychological and moral complexities inherent in the series' dark magical girl premise. It follows the amnesiac protagonist Kazumi Subaru as she discovers her identity and purpose within a new cast of characters in Asunaro City.

The series was serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward between 2011 and 2013, seeking to maintain the tone of its predecessor while introducing a distinct narrative arc focused on themes of memory and identity. This first volume, published in English by Yen Press, was received as a notable expansion of the franchise's lore, appreciated for its departure from the established main cast while effectively mirroring the dramatic, often tragic visual style and thematic gravity that fans of the original Madoka Magica had come to expect.
