Where it came from
Puella Magi Kazumi Magica is a spin-off manga series within the expansive Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise. It was written by Masaki Hiramatsu and illustrated by Takashi Tensugi, with the creative collective Magica Quartet credited for the original concept. The series debuted in Japan in 2011, riding the wave of the original anime's immense popularity, and was designed to explore the mechanics of magical girls in a different city—Asunaru—with a fresh cast of characters.
This second volume, titled The Innocent Malice, continues the narrative of Kazumi Subaru, a girl who begins the series without memories of her identity as a magical girl. The aesthetic maintains the series' signature contrast between light, magical-girl tropes and the darker, psychological themes central to the franchise. Yen Press handled the English-language publication, ensuring the series reached a broader audience as part of their growing portfolio of manga translations during the mid-2010s.
