Where it came from
Puppu-chan was created by mangaka Tsuruya Jirou as a gentle, slice-of-life series aimed at a younger demographic. It emerged from the tradition of Japanese character-driven manga, where the focus lies on the daily interactions and soft emotional growth of its titular protagonist. The series serves as a quiet study of kindness and curiosity, reflecting Tsuruya’s minimalist approach to storytelling and character design.
The aesthetic of the series is characterized by clean lines and an uncluttered visual style that prioritizes readability and charm. By stripping away narrative complexity, Tsuruya focused on the expressive potential of the protagonist’s silhouette and simple gestures. Upon release, the work was received as a comforting, low-stakes reading experience, finding its place as a staple of wholesome, family-friendly manga collections.
