Quellenkunde der Geschichte des preußischen Staats: Urkunden-Repertorium für die Geschichte des Preußischen Staats

Carl Kletke compiled this monumental repertory in the mid-19th century as part of a rigorous scholarly effort to organize the archival foundations of the Prussian state. Published during a period of intense German interest in systematic historiography and national identity, the work serves as a comprehensive index of primary documents. It was designed to provide historians and bureaucrats with a clear, reliable map of the complex administrative records that spanned the evolution of the Prussian territories.

The design and execution of the volume reflect the scholarly standards of Prussian academic circles, emphasizing precision, archival accessibility, and structural clarity. By categorizing diverse urkunden, or foundational charters, Kletke facilitated a more empirical approach to legal and political history. Upon its release, the work was highly regarded by contemporary scholars for its meticulous nature, becoming an essential reference tool for students of Central European history and remains a significant artifact for historical researchers today.
