Where it came from
Rikudou is a seinen manga series written and illustrated by Toshimitsu Matsubara, which began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump in 2014. The narrative follows Riku Aza, a young boy who experiences a traumatic childhood and finds a path toward personal redemption and survival through the rigorous and brutal world of professional boxing.
The series is noted for its gritty, visceral art style and unflinching exploration of grief and vengeance. Matsubara designed the work to focus on the psychological transformation of his protagonist, often utilizing stark, high-contrast imagery to underscore the intensity of the sport. It was well-received by readers for its mature tone and technical focus on pugilism, eventually spanning 23 volumes before concluding its run in 2019.
