Robo Dacchi

Robo Dacchi originated in the mid-1970s as a line of customizable plastic model kits produced by Imai Science. Created in the wake of the giant robot boom in Japanese media, the series was conceptualized by the noted artist and mangaka Ozawa Satoru. The design philosophy centered on modularity and charm, featuring small, rounded robots that could be disassembled and reconfigured with various interchangeable parts, tapping into the creative DIY spirit of the era's hobbyist market.

The series became a cult icon of retro mecha design, celebrated for its whimsical aesthetic that departed from the more aggressive military styling of contemporary Super Robot shows. Ozawa Satoru’s input provided a unique visual identity that balanced technical complexity with a friendly, approachable character design. While the original kits have long been out of production, they remain highly sought after by collectors for their historical significance in the evolution of Japanese model culture and their distinctive place in the 1970s hobby landscape.
