Rose Guns Days Season 1

Rose Guns Days was first released in 2012 by 07th Expansion as a visual novel series, subsequently adapted into manga volumes by various artists. Written by Ryukishi07, the mastermind behind the When They Cry series, this work marked a thematic departure from his previous psychological horror titles. Set in an alternate history version of 1944 where Japan is occupied by Allied forces, the story explores the complex socio-political dynamics of a nation struggling to reclaim its identity amidst the crushing influence of foreign powers.

The series is celebrated for its noir-inspired aesthetic and dense, character-driven narrative. Ryukishi07 intended to craft a sophisticated period drama that balanced elements of mystery, action, and human struggle. The manga adaptations, which began publication shortly after the visual novel's debut, were received as a faithful expansion of the original vision, praised for capturing the grit of the postwar setting and the intricate motivations of the characters navigating the black market and organized crime syndicates.
