Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas Gaiden

Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas Gaiden was created as a direct spin-off series to the popular Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas manga. While the original series focused on the central conflict of the 18th-century Holy War, this gaiden series was designed to provide deeper backstory for the individual Gold Saints. It features a rotating narrative structure, with each volume or set of chapters dedicated to a specific member of the sanctuary, allowing for a more intimate exploration of their personal histories and combat techniques.

The series is written and illustrated by Shiori Teshirogi, who took over the reins of the Lost Canvas timeline with the blessing of series creator Masami Kurumada. Teshirogi sought to maintain the high-stakes, mythologically-infused aesthetic established in the original series while refining her character designs to emphasize the unique personalities of each Gold Saint. The gaiden received a warm reception from the Saint Seiya fanbase, who appreciated the opportunity to see under-utilized characters receive significant narrative attention.
