Where it came from
Sakana de wa ashi mo tsukanai is a work of manga authored by Sanka Kanon, contributing to the genre of character-driven storytelling often found in seinen or josei publications. The title, which translates to a metaphorical idiom regarding being out of one's depth, reflects the author's exploration of interpersonal complexities and the emotional vulnerabilities of their protagonists. Kanon utilized a narrative style that emphasizes internal monologue and atmospheric pacing, typical of the indie or niche manga scene in Japan.
The design and artistic direction of the volume lean into minimalist character aesthetics, prioritizing expressive linework to convey subtle shifts in mood. Within the landscape of contemporary manga, Sanka Kanon is recognized for a focused, intimate approach to art that avoids the maximalist tendencies of mainstream shonen.
