Where it came from
Sayonara Watashi no Cramer, known in English as Farewell, My Dear Cramer, was serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine from 2016 to 2020. The manga was authored by Naoshi Arakawa, who gained widespread acclaim for his previous work, Your Lie in April. The series was conceived as a dedicated sports narrative focused on girls' high school soccer, intended to explore the dedication and tactical complexities of the sport in a country where the women's game was seeing increased national attention.
Arakawa's approach to the series emphasizes technical realism and character-driven drama, moving away from the supernatural elements often seen in sports manga. His design choices prioritize expressive, fluid movement during match sequences, aiming to ground the story in the genuine effort of the players. Upon release, the series was received as a sincere contribution to the genre, praised for its commitment to the sport and the nuanced development of its lead protagonist, Nozomi Onda.
