Select Poems of Sidney Lanier

Select Poems of Sidney Lanier serves as a curated anthology of the work of the prominent 19th-century American poet and musician. Lanier, best known for his lyrical focus on the Southern landscape and his innovative integration of musical principles into verse, gained posthumous recognition for his complex rhythmic structures. This particular volume functions as a modern scholarly or trade edition designed to preserve his literary contributions for contemporary readers, maintaining the accessibility of his primary themes of nature and spiritual introspection.

The publication of this collection reflects the enduring interest in Lanier's mid-century aesthetic, which bridged the gap between Romanticism and the nascent realism of the Gilded Age. While editions of his work have appeared in numerous configurations since his death in 1881, volumes such as this are often produced to provide a comprehensive look at his most lauded pieces, such as 'The Marshes of Glynn'. These editions are intended for students and enthusiasts of American letters, aimed at keeping the cadence and technical craftsmanship of Lanier’s poetry available in a legible, standard format.
