Select Poems of Sidney Lanier

Sidney Lanier was a prominent post-Civil War American poet and musician, known for his lyrical style and exploration of the relationship between music and verse. This specific volume is a scholarly or anthologized collection of his most recognized works, compiled to preserve the literary legacy of a writer whose career was tragically shortened by illness. His poetry, including notable pieces such as 'The Marshes of Glynn,' often reflected the Southern landscape and a deep, rhythmic sensibility influenced by his professional experience as a flutist.

The publication of this specific edition serves as a modern archival effort to maintain Lanier's place in the American literary canon. By gathering his select poems, publishers aim to provide a focused entry point for readers to engage with his complex use of meter and his commitment to the aesthetic philosophy that poetry should be governed by musical principles. These volumes are typically produced for academic or historical interest, ensuring that Lanier’s unique contribution to 19th-century American letters remains accessible to contemporary scholars and poetry enthusiasts.
