Selecta Latini Sermonis Exemplaria: E Scriptoribus Probatissimis Ad Christianae Juventutis Usum. ... Poeticae Orationis Excerptio; Seu Plauti & Terentii Fabulae, ad Christianae Juventutis usum contractae

This volume belongs to the pedagogical tradition of the 18th century, designed specifically for the moral and linguistic instruction of young Christian students. Compilations like these were central to the Jesuit education model, which emphasized the study of classical Latin authors through carefully curated, expurgated, and adapted passages to ensure that the material remained appropriate for an academic, religious setting.

The work focuses on the selection of Latin prose and poetry, specifically featuring adapted plays by Plautus and Terence. By sanitizing the original comedic works of these Roman playwrights, the editors sought to retain the stylistic benefits of classical Latin mastery while removing elements deemed unsuitable for young minds. These collections were standard fixtures in monastic and early secondary school libraries across Europe, serving as a bridge between foundational grammar and advanced rhetorical study.
