Selected Poems of Winthrop Mackworth Praed

Winthrop Mackworth Praed was a prominent British politician and poet during the early nineteenth century, known primarily for his contributions to light verse and society poetry. His work often appeared in periodicals such as The Etonian and Knight's Quarterly Magazine, capturing the wit and elegance of the Regency era. This specific volume serves as a curated anthology designed to preserve his clever, satirical, and polished style for readers who appreciated the rhythmic facility of his social commentary.

The publication of his collected works was intended to consolidate his reputation as a master of 'vers de société.' Praed was celebrated during his lifetime for his technical precision and charm, qualities that made his poetry a staple in nineteenth-century literary circles. By gathering these poems into a single volume, editors aimed to ensure his influence on the genre of humorous, refined verse remained accessible long after his premature death in 1839.
