Where it came from
Sensei wa Egoist is a romantic manga series penned by the acclaimed shojo author Shiiba Nana. Initially serialized in the Japanese manga magazine Sho-Comi, the work fits into the genre of teacher-student romance, a staple within the shojo demographic that often explores complex power dynamics and emotional maturity. The story centers on the evolving relationship between an educator and a student, a recurring thematic framework that Shiiba Nana utilized to examine themes of boundary-setting and professional ethics against the backdrop of adolescent longing.
Shiiba Nana is recognized for her clean, expressive linework and ability to navigate the tropes of school-life romances with a balance of sentimentality and humor. The design of the series leans into the classic shojo aesthetic, prioritizing character reactions and the internal monologue of the protagonist to drive the narrative tension. Since its publication, the series has been regarded as a characteristic example of early 2000s Japanese manga trends, appreciated by readers who follow Shiiba's broader bibliography for her specific approach to character-driven romantic drama.
