Shin Seiki Evangelion - Epilogue of Evangelion (Doujinshi)

Epilogue of Evangelion is a prominent piece of fan-created literature, or doujinshi, produced by the artist Michiru Shiduki. Emerging from the passionate fan community surrounding Hideaki Anno’s Neon Genesis Evangelion, this work was created to offer an alternative conclusion to the complex psychological and apocalyptic themes of the original series. It stands as a notable example of the creative subculture that sought to reconcile the narrative ambiguities left by the television show's final episodes.

Michiru Shiduki’s design for this work is characterized by an attempt to capture the distinct aesthetic of the original animation while exploring intimate, character-driven resolutions. Within the doujinshi scene, such works were often distributed at events like Comiket, serving as a medium for fans to express their interpretations of the characters' fates. The work has been discussed by enthusiasts primarily for its tone and its effort to provide closure for the protagonists in a way that resonated with a segment of the audience dissatisfied with the source material's ending.
