Shin Samurai Shodown: Haohmaru's Journey to Hell

Shin Samurai Shodown: Haohmaru's Journey to Hell was published during the mid-1990s as part of the extensive multimedia push for SNK's popular Samurai Shodown fighting game franchise. Crafted during a period when Japanese game developers frequently expanded their intellectual properties into print, this manga was created by Shiro Ohno to translate the high-octane, blade-clashing combat of the arcade titles into a narrative format, focusing on the series' iconic protagonist, Haohmaru.

Shiro Ohno’s artistic approach prioritized the kinetic energy and dramatic intensity found within the source material, utilizing sharp, rhythmic layouts to emphasize the swordsmanship that defined the games. While these adaptations were aimed primarily at the dedicated arcade-going audience of the era, they served as a vital expansion of the lore, offering a serialized look at the character motivations that underpinned the game’s roster and distinct aesthetic style.
