Where it came from
Six: Me, My Idol, and the Space Between Us is a manga series created by mangaka Sakamoto Taku, known for his ability to blend slice-of-life storytelling with nuanced character dynamics. The series emerged within the landscape of contemporary seinen manga, focusing on the complex, often parasocial relationship between an idol and a devoted fan. It aims to dissect the emotional distance and the blurring boundaries inherent in such fan-celebrity interactions, grounded in the realistic, minimalist art style characteristic of Taku's work.
The narrative functions as an exploration of identity and aspiration, positioning the 'space between' as both a physical reality and a psychological barrier. Upon its release, the work was noted by readers for its quiet, introspective tone, which eschews high-octane drama in favor of steady character development. Critics often highlight the series for its understated aesthetic, which allows the subtle shifts in the protagonist's perspective to take center stage, reflecting Taku's broader interest in the mundane moments that define personal growth.
