Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 2: The Fate of Dr. Eggman

Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 2: The Fate of Dr. Eggman, published by IDW Publishing in 2018, serves as the second installment in the company's licensed series based on the long-running Sega video game franchise. Following the acquisition of the license, IDW sought to establish a new continuity that honored the core tenets of the series while introducing fresh narrative stakes. This volume chronicles the immediate aftermath of the initial story arc, focusing on the power vacuum created by the absence of the franchise's primary antagonist.

The volume was written by Ian Flynn, a veteran of Sonic the Hedgehog comics who brought a deep understanding of the character's voice and lore to the new series. The artwork, primarily handled by Tracy Yardley and Jennifer Hernandez, adheres to the established aesthetic of the modern Sonic games, emphasizing dynamic action and expressive character designs. Upon its release, the volume was well-received by fans of the series, noted for balancing the tone of the games with the more serialized storytelling demands of comic books.
