Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 6: The Last Minute

Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 6: The Last Minute is a pivotal entry in the ongoing series published by IDW Publishing, which launched in 2018 to continue the narrative legacy of the Sonic franchise in comic book form. Written by Ian Flynn, a long-time veteran of Sonic storytelling, this volume collects issues #21 through #24. The story serves as the conclusion to the intense Metal Virus arc, a major narrative event that tested the characters' resilience against a robotic plague, reflecting the series' tendency to blend lighthearted action with darker, high-stakes science fiction tropes.

The visual identity of this volume is defined by the established aesthetic of the IDW Sonic line, which relies on a core team of artists like Adam Bryce Thomas and Tracy Yardley to maintain a look consistent with Sega’s modern character designs. Ian Flynn’s writing aims to balance the established personality traits of Sonic and his allies with the evolving world-building required by the new continuity. Upon release, the volume was well-received by fans of the franchise for its successful pacing and the emotional weight Flynn brought to the conclusion of such a significant story arc.
