Where it came from
Soshite - Kozure Ookami: Shikaku no Ko serves as a narrative continuation of the legendary Lone Wolf and Cub series, conceptualized by writer Kazuo Koike. This iteration was produced to extend the legacy of the original saga, which fundamentally redefined the gekiga genre by blending historical chanbara tropes with a modern, gritty sensibility centered on the stoic, displaced executioner Ogami Itto and his son, Daigoro.
The creative direction for this series sought to recapture the visceral, minimalist storytelling that characterized the original collaboration between Koike and artist Goseki Kojima. While it navigates the familiar themes of bushido, vengeance, and paternal devotion, the work functions as a reflective homage intended for an audience intimately familiar with the complex moral landscapes established in the foundational volumes of the 1970s.
