Where it came from
Released as part of the official anthology series for the critically acclaimed fantasy manga Sousou no Frieren, this volume gathers a collection of short stories and artistic interpretations by various contributors, including the mangaka Jona. Published by Shogakukan, it serves as a companion piece to the main narrative, allowing secondary creators to explore the melancholy and quiet journey of Frieren the elf through different perspectives while maintaining the series' established tone of reflection and historical gravity.
The editorial intent behind this anthology was to expand the world-building of the Frieren universe by inviting guest artists to contribute vignettes that focus on the passage of time and interpersonal connections. The design and aesthetic of the volume mirror the original series' clean, nostalgic art style, prioritizing atmosphere over high-stakes action. Upon its release, it was well-received by fans for its ability to capture the meditative, bittersweet essence of the primary series in bite-sized, self-contained explorations.
