Space Family Carlvinson

Space Family Carlvinson, written and illustrated by Asari Yoshitoo, began serialization in the mid-1980s. The series emerged during a period of creative expansion in science fiction manga, offering a whimsical and thoughtful take on space travel. It follows the adventures of the Carlvinson family, who traverse the galaxy in a ship that serves as both home and vessel, emphasizing the human and domestic elements of life amidst the stars rather than traditional space opera conflict.

Asari Yoshitoo is well-regarded for his rigorous attention to scientific detail, a hallmark of his work that earned him a reputation among fans of 'hard' science fiction. The visual design of the series reflects an accessible, clean aesthetic typical of the era's manga, designed to support the narrative's blend of humor and grounded speculative fiction. The series has maintained a dedicated following, particularly valued for its unique philosophical underpinnings and the meticulous technical research embedded in its world-building.
