Where it came from
Starting From Today I'll Work as a City Lord began as a web novel written by Aoye Dabai, reflecting the genre of isekai-inspired urban and territory-building fantasy that gained traction on Chinese digital literature platforms. The narrative follows a protagonist thrust into a management role, focusing on the tactical and social complexities of developing a struggling settlement into a prosperous hub, which resonated with readers who enjoy strategic progression tropes.
The adaptation into a manhua format helped bring the series to a wider international audience, utilizing vibrant, stylized art to visualize the protagonist's bureaucratic and military challenges. The visual direction emphasizes the contrast between gritty medieval settings and the protagonist's modern-day administrative sensibilities, earning a steady following among fans of the system-based progression genre for its blend of world-building and lighthearted character dynamics.
