Summer: From the Journal of Henry David Thoreau - Scholar's Choice Edition

Summer: From the Journal of Henry David Thoreau is a posthumous compilation of the author's observations on the natural world, first published in 1884. Edited by H.G.O. Blake, the volume draws from the extensive journals Thoreau kept during his lifetime, documenting the phenology of Concord, Massachusetts. This specific text serves as a quintessential example of Transcendentalist nature writing, capturing the author's meticulous attention to the seasonal shifts of plants, weather, and animal behavior.

The Scholar's Choice Edition is a modern reprint produced through scholarly publishing programs dedicated to preserving rare historical works. By digitizing and reprinting materials from archives, these editions aim to keep texts in the public domain accessible to researchers and general readers alike. While the design is utilitarian, focusing on readability and academic utility rather than aesthetic embellishment, it fulfills the ongoing mission to keep Thoreau’s late-19th-century compilation available for contemporary environmental study.
