The Writings of Henry David Thoreau: With Bibliographical Introductions and Full Indexes. In Ten Volumes

This ten-volume set, often referred to as the Walden Edition, was published in 1906 by Houghton Mifflin. It represents one of the most significant early efforts to compile Thoreau's complete works, including journals, essays, and correspondence, in a scholarly and unified format. The collection was released during a period of renewed interest in American transcendentalism, aiming to cement Thoreau's legacy as a foundational literary figure rather than merely a local naturalist.

The design of the set reflects the high standards of early twentieth-century publishing, utilizing quality paper and distinct typography that evokes the earnest, intellectual character of the era. The inclusion of comprehensive bibliographical introductions and indexes was intended to provide researchers and enthusiasts with a definitive resource for studying the author's development. Upon release, the set was praised by critics for its meticulous editorial rigor and remains a prized item for bibliophiles seeking a historically significant primary text.
