Supplement op den Catalogus der bibliotheek van het Departement van Oorlog

The Supplement op den Catalogus der bibliotheek van het Departement van Oorlog was published in the late 19th century to extend the accessibility of the Dutch War Department's expansive military library. As the collection grew through acquisitions and strategic documentation, the Ministry of War required a structured bibliographic tool to manage its specialized holdings, which included tactical manuals, historical records, and geopolitical reports vital to the administration of the Dutch defense infrastructure.

The volume serves as a representative artifact of 19th-century institutional cataloging, reflecting the rigorous organizational standards of the time. It was curated by librarians and military archivists tasked with maintaining a comprehensive index for officers and government officials. While the designers remain largely anonymous, the work is noted by bibliographers for its adherence to the systematic classification schemas employed by Dutch national institutions, designed to balance bureaucratic clarity with the preservation of sensitive military literature.
