This volume serves as a critical expansion of the archival catalog for the Vereeniging ter bevordering van de Belangen des Boekhandels, the Dutch association for the advancement of the book trade. Compiled by the renowned bibliographer and bookseller Frederik Muller, the supplement was designed to ensure that the growing collection held by the organization remained accessible and organized for researchers and trade professionals. Muller, a central figure in 19th-century Dutch bibliography, was highly regarded for his meticulous approach to cataloging, and his work here reflects the broader scholarly trend of the era toward systematizing institutional libraries.

The publication acts as a testament to the infrastructure of the Dutch book industry during the late 19th century, documenting the materials deemed significant enough to be preserved by the professional association. In terms of design and intent, the supplement prioritizes utility and clarity, adhering to the traditional scholarly formatting expected of bibliographic records from that period. It was received by the academic and bookselling communities as an essential reference tool, reinforcing the association’s commitment to maintaining a comprehensive record of the literature and history surrounding the Dutch book trade.
