Where it came from
Sweet Candy, created by the artist known as Dahu (大壶), is a representative volume within the broader landscape of modern independent illustration and manga-style collections originating from China. The work reflects a contemporary shift toward emotive, stylized aesthetics that emphasize soft character designs and slice-of-life thematic elements, fitting squarely into the aesthetic traditions of early 21st-century digital art circles.
The volume was curated to showcase Dahu’s specific approach to visual storytelling, which prioritizes atmospheric character portraiture and sentimental narrative vignettes. Upon its release, the collection was recognized primarily within niche online art communities for its clean linework and nostalgic color palettes, establishing Dahu as a recognizable figure among domestic collectors of illustrative compilations.
