Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization was developed by Aquria and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. As the fourth entry in the video game series based on Reki Kawahara's light novels, it focuses on a new virtual reality world called Ainground. The title was designed to simulate the feel of a traditional massively multiplayer online role-playing game, setting it apart from its predecessors by emphasizing expansive exploration and character-driven interactions within the narrative.

Reki Kawahara supervised the game's story, ensuring it aligned with the tone and themes of his original work while introducing original characters like Premiere. The design direction sought to capture the core appeal of the franchise—the tension and camaraderie of a virtual frontier. Upon release, the game was generally received by fans as a significant improvement in gameplay mechanics and world-building compared to earlier titles in the series, solidifying its place as a staple of the franchise's expanded media universe.
