Takasugi-san'chi no Obentou

Takasugi-san'chi no Obentou, or The Takasugi Household's Bento, was serialized in the manga magazine Monthly Comic Flapper beginning in 2009. Created by mangaka Nozomi Yanahara, the series explores the domestic lives of a cousin duo—a taciturn salaryman and a shy middle schooler—who find themselves living together after a family bereavement. The work fits into the slice-of-life genre, utilizing the preparation and consumption of bento meals as a central motif to bridge the emotional distance between the two protagonists.

The series is noted for its focus on culinary detail and the quiet, incremental development of interpersonal relationships. Yanahara’s illustrative style emphasizes warmth and realism in the food preparation process, grounding the emotional narrative in the labor of daily care. Upon its release, the manga was well-regarded for its gentle tone and its exploration of non-traditional family structures, eventually receiving a live-action television adaptation in 2014, which helped further cement its reputation as a comforting, character-driven story.
