Tancred

Tancred, or The New Crusade was published in 1847 as the final installment of Benjamin Disraeli's Young England trilogy. Written during a period when Disraeli was an influential member of the British Parliament, the novel served as a vehicle for his political and social philosophy, exploring themes of religious tradition, imperial responsibility, and the social stratification of Victorian England. It was conceived as a fictionalized expansion of the ideas he championed in Coningsby and Sybil, aiming to reconcile the aristocracy with the plight of the working class through a return to older, more spiritual values.
